How to play

Welcome to BatQuiz — the social survival quiz where answering correctly is only half the game.

Getting started

One player creates a challenge and shares the QR code, invitation link or five-character game code. Join on your phone, enter your player name and wait for the organiser to start. Every player begins with the same number of lives.

For an app-style experience, install BatQuiz from the browser when the Install BatQuiz button appears. On iPhone or iPad, open BatQuiz in Safari and choose Share → Add to Home Screen.

Using a shared screen

A large screen is optional; BatQuiz can be played entirely on phones. To add one, tap View game on screen from a player screen. The popup provides a QR code, copyable URL, device sharing and an option to open the display immediately.

Open that link on a TV browser, laptop, tablet or a device connected to a projector, then use full-screen mode if required. The screen view follows the challenge automatically and is read-only, so players should continue answering and choosing targets on their own phones. The link can also be shared with remote spectators.

Answering questions

BatQuiz chooses the first player at random. When it is your turn, answer before the timer runs out. The countdown bar changes from cyan to amber and then red as time runs low; the number shows the exact seconds remaining. If the organiser enables narration, audio still starts off on every device—tap the pulsing Audio off control once to enable it for that challenge. An optional countdown sound plays only for the answering player during the final 10 seconds; venue screens have their own sound switch.

On phones, BatQuiz automatically brings a new question or target choice into view. Use the bottom bar to open Players, Game info or the optional shared-screen link without leaving the active game.

After answering, you get the bat and choose who receives the next question—or leave the choice to BatQuiz.

Comedy banter

If the organiser enables Occasional or Full Banter, BatQuiz may add a light-hearted reaction after important result narration. Banter reacts to comebacks, streaks, quick or last-second answers, last lives, Bonus Lives and shields. Open Game info to mute or restore banter on your device without disabling essential narration.

Shields

Build the required correct-answer streak to earn a shield. The organiser chooses the streak length or can disable shields before starting.

Your shield and streak progress are private: only you can see them until the shield activates. A shield lasts for up to one complete player round and is single-use. If someone sends a question to you while it is active, the shield is consumed and the question bounces back to the sender. The bounce is then announced to everyone.

Bonus Life questions

If the organiser enables Bonus Life questions, BatQuiz creates a random bonus opportunity every 8–12 turns. A gold Bonus Life Question banner will appear when one is active.

Bonus questions have a difficulty above 55 and are only offered to a player who has already lost a life. Answer correctly to regain one life, up to the number you started with. A wrong answer or timeout still costs one life. If a shield bounces the question, the bonus goes with it to the player who must answer.

Target protection

The organiser may prevent the same player from being repeatedly targeted. A protected player cannot be selected until their protection expires.

Leaderboards

Every finished challenge shows final standings and quiz statistics. An optional player profile links your completed games to weekly, monthly and all-time rankings. Your unique @username prevents confusion between players with the same friendly name, and you can hide your profile from public rankings at any time.

Privacy and cookies

BatQuiz uses essential cookies and session storage for security, sign-in and game continuity. Optional storage remembers device preferences only if you allow it. You can review your choice at any time from Cookie settings below. Read the Privacy Policy for full details.

Playing again

After the winner is announced, the organiser can create a Rematch with the same settings or open a New challenge with the previous settings ready to edit. A rematch is a fresh game, so the completed result and leaderboard history remain unchanged. BatQuiz avoids questions already played in the linked rematch series while enough unused matching questions remain; if a narrow question bank runs short, the least recently encountered questions return first. New challenges also rotate through the least-selected matching questions across BatQuiz. Other players tap Join rematch to keep their player name, while a shared screen displays the new code and QR.

Staying in the game

Wrong answers and timeouts cost lives. Lose your final life and you are eliminated. The last active player wins.

Answer it. Bat it on. Choose wisely.
